Why I’ll Never Buy Blackberries in the Supermarket
Share
I can’t abide the sight of blackberries in an Irish supermarket. They sit there in plastic containers, row after row of uniform perfect sized fruit ready for your breakfast yet our hedgerows are full of them, and anyone can pick them. They’re not perfect, your fingers will get black and sticky, you might even get pricked from the odd thorn or two but isn’t that what makes it worth it? If you spend a couple of hours up a country boreen, preferably away from busy roads, you will be rewarded by your foraging efforts. Make a day of it! Bring the family! When you get home wash them, pop them in the freezer, Make jam or blackberry crumble. It’s the perfect way to spend an autumn day.
Here's a link to a blackberry crumble recipe https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/apple-blackberry-crumble which I love to eat warm with cream on the side. Afterall, I went to the effort of picking them!
