When was the last time you tried something new?

Or you pushed yourself outside of your comfort zone? For me it was a Friday evening in our local pottery studio, Cre Pottery where they run a monthly paint and sip night. It is years since I did anything like this where you let your creative side run free. We got to choose a piece of clay and mould it into either a bowl or paint it as a tile. Our learned teacher Sophie (who happens to have a fine art degree and is a ceramicist) also patiently showed each of us how to use the potter’s wheel. The fun we had in shaping a piece of clay, adding the water, watching it unfold.

Phones were put away (once a few select photos were taken). We chatted all evening, each of us in our flow, each of us creating something unique. At the end of the night, we all marvelled at how fast the evening had flown. We were all in the moment, creating something with our hands. We all have busy jobs and relished trying something artistic away from the day jobs! We got to tap into that sense of wonder you have as a child. While I’m not so sure a career as a potter is in my future, I’ll be going back, to play. Something, we often forget to do as adults. When was the last time you tried something new?
